The fine print, minus the fine print

A note on cookies

We believe a good edit is an honest one. So here, in plain language, is exactly what we store on your device and why.

A cookie is a small piece of text a website leaves on your browser so it can remember things between visits. We use as few as we can, and we never sell what we learn. Here is the whole picture.

What we use, and why

Essential

These keep the lights on. They remember that you are signed in, hold your session securely, and store the events, happy hours and Ella plans you save so they are waiting when you come back. The site cannot work properly without them, so they are always on. Nothing here follows you around the internet.

Analytics

With your permission, we look at how the edit is used in aggregate. Which neighborhoods people browse, which sample sales fill up fastest, where a page is confusing. It is anonymous and it only ever helps us sharpen the edit. If you would rather we did not, that is completely fine.

Affiliate and marketing

When we point you to a dress worth knowing about or a shop worth a detour, some of those links are affiliate links through our partner ShopMy. If you buy something, we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. It is one of the quiet ways we keep The City Edit free. These cookies make those links work. Turn them off and the edit reads exactly the same, we simply do not earn on what you find.

Trusted partners

A few service providers help us run the site and they process data only on our behalf: our hosting and database provider to serve and secure the site and your account, our email provider to send the Weekly Edit if you subscribe, and ShopMy to power affiliate links if you allow marketing cookies. We do not hand your personal information to anyone to use for their own purposes.

You are in charge

When you first arrive we ask what you are comfortable with, and you can change your mind at any time. Use the button below to reopen your choices, or clear cookies in your browser settings to reset everything. Your preference is remembered for about six months, after which we will ask again.

Questions

We are a small team and we read every note. If anything here is unclear, write to us at hello@thecityeditnyc.com and a real person will answer.
